I have had a great sense of responsibility towards Zoe and Peanut (the name we have given bump), and any anxieties I've had, I have pretty much kept them to myself.
Unexpressed fears may cause considerable problems to us dads-to-be. Some dads-to-be may suffer from insomnia or digestive issues etc.... In my case, skin rashes have highlighted my emotional stress of the pregnancy.
Since I've started blogging I have seen a significant reduction in the problem areas on my knuckles, which is amazing, how simply having an output has helped release these issues. I've never had any kind of skin irritant before we set out on this journey (apart from when I lie too long in the bath or get pricked by fir trees in the garden) but it came out in force on my hands and then started showing on my ears (which has pretty much cleared up).
The conception, development and birth of a baby is a miracle and it is sad that so many dads still go through pregnancy and approach the important milestone of birth with fear.
Most of us men these days have learned some kind of biology at school and with this understand the principles of conception and the development of the baby. But, do we give much thought to the continuing miracle that is going on in our partners body as the weeks go past.
I am extremely lucky on this part as Zoe has been able to show me each weeks growth with the new phone apps that are available and I've been able to see the baby grow, to find out the equivalent size comparable to fruit and vegs (peanut is the size of a Honeydew melon) and what length they now are. We also decided to go to the antenatal classes and I have to admit they were excellent. Most things Zoe had already spoken to me about (ie the drugs that the hospital will have to aid her with the birth) but there was a lot of other things that I learned that I would not have thought of till the baby was born, like putting the baby to the bottom of the crib/cot and how to hold baby when bathing etc...
Becoming Dad.
