A sponsored post......Belfast Beard Company - Oils & Balms

So......as everyone knows I'm on Twitter
( @becomingdadni ) and as you do, you follow people and products that you like or have an interest in. As I have a beard, I would keep an eye on products to look after it and this comes in me following beardy tweeters and one of them is our very own 'Belfast Beard Company'.
When I saw that there was such a company, just down the road, I had to contact them and they were very nice in sending me some of their products to test out.

There was a lovely wee note from Laura & Adam inside and I love the hashtag
#updabeards
The guys who run the company have a wealth of barber and beard knowledge, which is wonderful because you can see it's a passion for them rather than just a business.

They sent me a bottle of oil and tub of balm to try on 'the beast' (as I have named it). The first thing that caught my eye was that the oil had a spray attachment which was a brilliant idea. The other oils I've tried you had to shake the oil onto your hand, whereas with this you can either spray straight onto the beard or onto your hands to rub in.

They are also very well packed in recycled packaging and this can all be fully recycled afterwards.

The smell is very manly, my other ones I have, have been more sweet and fruity so this was a great alternative to them and is great because it's like an aftershave. They do have many other pils to choose from and if you contact them either via Twitter/ Facebook or the website, I'm sure they will give you a breakdown of the other smells.
The balm is softer than the previous one's I have had and in so is much easier to use, to rub in.
It is a very good moisturizer for the skin underneath the beard as this can be a concern that the skin can become dry and the beard can be affected and look a little frazzled.

It's not greasy, so that when it has been rubbed in and then combed through, the beard has a lovely shine but isn't oily to the touch.

I'll add a link to Belfast Beards website and Twitter account at the bottom of this post, that it makes it easier for people to click on their links. They have a great range of oils, balms and other beard related items on their site and I would highly recommend using their products if you are looking at some new beardy products or looking to buy someone a great gift.

A walk around the garden......

I would be the first to admit that it's only been in the past few years that I have gotten into gardening and growing fruit and vegetables. The house we moved into had a nice sized garden but being the end house was open to the kids playing in the turn behind the house. So it started out with just putting up fir trees to make it a little bit more private. Then I closed part of the garden of so that the dogs had their part and the humans had their part.

Then came the Greenhouse, which I got and built it in the Autumn of 2014 to get ready for Spring 2015.

In the first year I grew tomatoes and pumpkins which grew very well. I also had a go at growing a few fruit bushes in the greenhouse, these were Inca berries. They needed to be in the Greenhouse for atleast one year.

In the garden itself I started growing a Gooseberry bush, Blueberries, Blackcurrants and Whitecurrants.
There are Olive trees (small) growing, lavender bushes, Rosemary and Sage. Along with Honeysuckle, Star Jasmine and a Climbing Hydrangea.

Looking into the garden, I have roses (of many colours) growing over the arches with lanterns hanging from each arch.
You can see the BBQ over to the right which hopefully will be used a few times this year.

A Bay tree which has been growing for the last two years. I thought it had nearly died after the first year but I moved it last spring and it is flourishing in it's new spot.

Mint is taking over certain patches of the garden but it smells so, so good! I now dig some up but I pot them rather than throw them away because who doesn't love the smell of fresh mint and I set the pots around the front of the house.

One of my Olive trees, which has a few olives appearing. I hope to harvest them before the birds get them, to try to grow some more trees!

Potted Christmas trees from 2014, which I planted in the New Year 2015. It is growing nicely and had some fairy lights around it this Christmas.

I love our swing bench and have some Clematis growing around it and when fully flowered in bloom, should smell amazing. Wonderful mosiac firepit which is great to have on, on those hot sunny days, which turn into BBQ evenings and alcholic evenings surrounded by friends and mighty criac.

I forgot about the young trees that are planted around the garden. There is two Cherry trees, two Plums, a Pear and Apple tree growing there as well.
Here is one of the Cherry trees growing beside another of the seated areas in the garden.

Two of the Blackcurrant and Whitecurrant bushes. You can see I have a net roughly put over as because of my hip, I can't get in properly to secure them. Last year I let the birds feast on them but this year I'd like to try to maybe make something with them.
You can also spot in the bottom left of yhe picture a hedgehog house for any that pass our way.

On the other side of the seat, there is the Plum tree which is growing through it. It is only in it's second year, it really shot up last year, so hopefully fruit will grow this year.

Some of the Rosemary bushes and Cherry and Plum tree.
This part is edged and I have attached tope lights along the edge, which get lite up in late evenings when the sun has shown it's face.

Here we have the Gooseberry bush which yielded lots of fruit in it's first year, so I'm hoping for more this year for a jam or curd!
Then the rest of the bushes are Raspberries which really did well with fruit last year, I did get these netted last year as the birds earlier in the season had huge fun filling themselves with the fruit.

There is lavender, Rosemary and mint all growing together. With some of the climbers growing up the fence and the shed.

Here we are at the opening of my greenhouse. I enjoy pottering about in here and a few hours can disappear quite fast when I'm in here.
I have five Inca berry bushes growing at the back which I planted from seeds last year, they can be potted outside this year but I think I might keep them indoors again this year.
On the back shelf I am trying to grow Fig and Lemon trees from seeds with mixed success.
On  the ground to the right I am growing Chamomile from tea and two pots of strawberries which I moved from around the house.
The pot to the left at the back is an Apple tree grown from a seed that my parents potted about Five years ago before they said for me to take it. The first year here, it didn't do well but once moved into the greenhouse it has really bloomed over the last two years and as you can see, the leaves are growing well again this year.
And the middle row on the ground has Brussels Sprouts and the trough has Scotch Bonnet chills just planted.

On the back shelf I am trying to grow Fig and Lemon trees from seeds with mixed success. On the right I have troughs full of herbs, growing away ready to be hung out on the iron fences in the next months. There is Basil, Pak Choi, Fenugreek, Oregano and Broccoli.
The pots on the floor have seven Garlic growing from an old pod of garlic from the fridge.
Another few Raspberry bushes which were growing from fallen seeds in the garden, which were growing in the wrong place and I uprooted and potted them.

All these pots have several different tomato varities (Red Cherry, Red Pear, Tigerella) growing as well as Atlantic Giant Pumpkins, Small sugar Pumpkins, Butternut Squashes, Cucamelons, Asparagus Peas. As well as Beetroots, Rhubarb, Tomatillos, Squashes, Courgettes, Cucumbers and Thyme which aren't in the pictures.
Another picture of the troughs with the herbs growing in them. The blue pellets are to stop the slugsand snails from feasting.

A closer picture of the fig and lemon seeds.

Odds and sods of pots and tools that come into use all the time.

All these pots will find a use, at some stage of growing.

More trellis which will be put up somewhere once I'm fully able to complete such manual work. Along with felt, which will be used for something, I'm sure.

Well, there we have it. A walk around my garden, I hope you liked it.

Quick sketch......

I saw this saying on line and thought I'd do a sketch of it as I received in the post my final birthday presents which came all the way from Japan: Two Kuretake pens, and wanted to see how they sketch and they didn't fail me. They were a really good draw, the ink flowed lovely.

And there they are above. So until the next time, don't forget to read the other blog posts and to leave a comment.

Less than Three weeks to go!!!

Well Zoe is now 37 weeks and the pregnancy is coming on well.

She is now only 19 Days to Due date, so we are waiting for any day to be the big day.

It's like Christmas time when I was a kid, counting down the days and getting more excited with each day that goes by.

I'm still waiting to pack her hospital bag, she tells me each day that she will do it today but I have heard this for the past two months! 😆 We will get it packed tonight......hahaha!

Zoe is feeling well, with a few issues with back pain but Baby M seems to be happy staying where they are for the moment. Lots of movement after meal times, fizzy drinks and when Zoe lies down at the end of the day.

I've been put of work by my consultant for another Four weeks while I get my hip strenghened, with walks, swimming, biking and physio exercises. While it's annoying that I can't get back to work and there is still issues with the joint, it is good that I won't be too far from Zoe once she tells me we have to go to hospital rather than a half hour drive from work to come to collect her.

Anyway, my coffee is getting cold here, so I'm off to drink it!

Comic strip - Mood Swings Much!

Now...as we all know I don't know much yet of this fatherhood stuff but I have read up things from the baby internet pages and from books. I have seen that the baby's sex can be determined by how the mum's moods are during pregnancy!? Haha...well old wife tales tell us this, so it's not very scientific and other things during the pregnancy would indicate the opposite sex so we really haven't learnt much from this have we!

Anyway, happy Friday and don't forget to leave a comment and to follow me on TWITTER-

A day at the National Trust....MountStewart

Another lovely Sunday in Northern Ireland and Zoe said about going to a doggie day at the wonderful surroundings of The Mountstewart area.

Mountstewart is on the coastal route heading towards Portaferry and is a very scenic drive. By the time we got there it was already quite busy and the parking was well manned with staff showing us where to park.
There was plenty of dog agility shows as well as best of show, rally demos, cutest pup, dogs that judges wanted to take home etc...

There was every kind of breed out to see but there wasn't too many mixed breeds like our little family...

Two of the brood that was out with Zoe and me, Barney is on the brown left going of the right of the picture. Oscar didn't make it out today as he is a tad delicate when it comes to being around over dogs. These three had a great day out, having had their little legs walked of them.

Bella in one of the formal gardens with Zoe. Bella tends to sit picture perfect right until I get the camera ready and then turns away as she is camera shy. So it was nice to get this picture.

Part of the walled garden.

The vineyard with beehives outside the front of it.

Zoe, peanut and me......

Bella & Gracie our two rescue pups, they came to us four years ago as 12 week old pups. We got them from Seventh Heaven Animal Rescue, when they got the girls and their two brothers, they almost lost Bella on the way to the vets but luckily for us she pulled through and is now bigger than her sister.
Gracie loving life. 😊

Picture from the formal gardens. How awesome it must be to have a garden this size to have several different gardens.

Picture looking the other way.

The two sisters and Barney make up the rebel!

Bella thought she was one of the humans and wanted up on the bench to enjoy the sunny weather.

Gracie with a lead over her face and Bella enjoying the view before inviting herself onto the bench between Zoe and me.

The view from the bench. There's worse places to spend a Sunday afternoon.

My beautiful wife, with peanut and Bella not knowing I had the camera out! 😊

T minus Four Weeks Four Days

The nursery is coming along well. The walls and ceilings painted. The wood work glossed, furniture built and the door sign was painted a few weeks ago. One of the last things to be completed in there was the painting on the wall above the cot.
Here's how it went-

Can you make out the faint pencil sketch of the idea on the wall?

Then came the charcoal stars...

Next was the gold stars...

Silvers stars and heads & fences appearing...

Then the white woolly parts appear...

Good night, sleep tight...

With cot in position...

A closer image of the finished painting...

Stars going up to the ceiling...

I hope you like it and that when peanut comes, that they like it as much as I've enjoyed getting the nursery ready for them.
