Comic strip - 'feet issue'

With being in later pregnancy, we have noticed that a few body parts become swollen...well feet to be exact.

I hope you like the first strip in Becoming Dad and hopefully I get a few more chances to draw out some more strips telling the tale of how we get on with parenthood and all that the journey brings.

Shhh...Baby Dreaming

I'd seen this stencil on Pinterest and thought it would be nice to get for the door. Then I thought, I can draw, why not save some money and paint it myself.

I'm really quite pleased with the result and here it is-

I think it comes up really well against the one which was on Pinterest-

Fear for the first time......

I've never really "feared" anything in my life up to now. There has been 'worry' when I was younger about exams, of going into the unknown, then when I got a little older, of the possibility of losing a family member, money issues etc....but the one thing I never worried or had a fear about was about my own mortality.

I always knew that if I was to die, that everyone close to me would carry on, it would be nature's speed bump along life's path but overall it would continue to move on.

Then......I'm on the cusp of Becoming Dad and you realise, you need to be there for this little one. No more messing about, you need to start to take things easy and look after yourself, to not get yourself into situations that might jeapordise your life. It's an odd sensation, to realise that you not only have to look after yourself, for you but also for the little person that is steamrolling into your life.

You, get told of all the changes that is going to happen in your life from now on, the sleepless nights, bottle feeds, nappy changes, not being able to just pick up your keys and leave the house and everything else that life throws at you but this thought, this Fear. No one tells you about this, maybe it's a right of passage, that every Dad comes to and we have to get there on our own.

This is the most exciting time I have ever been involved with and each day that gets bigger and I cannot wait to meet this little person but I can promise that, this fear will drive me to be the best man, the best dad, that baby could ever want.

Am I the only one, with this feeling? I don't know, I doubt I am. If you have this same feeling, leave a comment. If, you think of anything else, leave a comment.

Physi-ooouuucccchhh

Soo....back to see the physio again today after my hip surgery, last month, and she has put me through my paces today. Oohhhh yes!

After my setback at the tail end of last week (jarred my hip when I caught my foot coming round the bed) I've been feeling a bit tender and the physio was able to find that spot!

It was a good session and the hip is definitely improving, which is awesome. Just need to remember to take it easy and not to put too much strain on the joint and keep on top of my exercise programme.

So, for anyone who does follow this blog,  there might continue to be a few more each day while I get back to full fitness. :)

New mug time......

Hold the phone........Starbucks offering discounts if you bring your own mug!!!

Time to hit the shops and to get me the biggest, shiniest mug I can find! They'll fill it right to the top won't they?

In all seriousness, it's a great idea and hopefully all the other coffee shops go the same way. In a time when, in the next months and years to come, coffee is going to be my 'BFF' this is amazing news. Bring your own mug and get 50p off your coffee. Sold!

There is a great article in The Daily Mail on this story, revealing how few cups are being recycled at this time. Which is the main headline behind this plan, when you think how many go to landfill sites rather than simply looking after the place we live.

A crown fit for our little Prince or Princess

I am a sucker already for buying things for this baby. I was scanning through Amazon looking at little things for peanut and came across these little crowns for some of their first photos.

A blue crown - click on the link. A bargain for  £0.90p

A pink crown - click on the link. A bargain for £0.95p

And you could buy them both together,  like I did and get free P&P

I've received the blue one and the pink one should be with us before the 9th April.

The world of Creams, whites and beiges

When we first found out we were going to have a baby, the excitement was out of this world. Zoe and me have been married 3 & 1/2 years and a baby was the next natural step we wanted to take. (Even though I wouldn't admit that to the boys!) We went out looking at baby clothes and knew we wanted to buy our first outfit but not knowing what the sex was, we looked at the neural colours with such excitement and joy and Yes, we did buy their first outfit.

Over the months, since then, we still looked at the neutral colours any time we were out and about but I have to admit, I was itching to find out what colour I could be picking.

We had our 20 week scan booked in for Christmas Eve and thought about asking then what sex the baby was going to be. What an amazing present to ourselves to find out at Christmas! The days running up to this date, Zoe said that she might prefer not to know, well, I wasn't going to be the person going through the labour, so I definitely wasn't going to demand we find out. I was happy to go with whatever choice she wanted.

At the scan, we weren't even asked if we wanted to know, so that made it easier. Zoe said after, if she'd been asked, she couldn't have said no! Hahaha....at times Zoe can't hold her own water, very much like myself!

I'm glad we never found out because even though cream, white and beige is all we can pick from at the moment, in 7-8 short weeks we'll be able to go mad on whatever outfit our hearts desire. Don't get me wrong,  if we had been told, I would have spent money like it was going out of fashion on baby clothes for little boys or girls.

When we go out and we get the chance to look at both boys and girls colours, we do ask the bump, 'What are you little peanut?'

A delivery room surprise, so at the this moment we are team, 'Cream, white and beige!'

Waking up to this......

The Brussels attacks, have shocked everyone. Sitting here drinking coffee, just when you're looking forward to another quiet Tuesday, you turn on the TV to these scenes. Our hearts and thoughts go ti the families affected by today's events. Makes you think what kind of world you're bring a baby into, then I see I have a new episode of 'The Walking Dead' on catchup and remember that we could have Zombies! *lightening the mood

The world of sport- T20 is happening and NO football as we go into an International break.  Worst thing about International weekends is that it almost feels like a summer weekend,  when us men (and women) are pinning for August and the start of the season.

Real Madrid planto increase Gareth Bales £300k a-week wages. Crazy money! Don't get me wrong he's a great player but he already makes more a month than most adults will make in their lives.

Good to see some Arsenal FC news - young Alex Iwobi to get an improved contract. One of the few highlights of our season, is this young man. He has the ability to become an Arsenal legend if he keeps improving and stays with the club.
Good news to hear that Indian Wells tournament chief Raymond Moores has quit after his offensive and controversial comments aboit women's tennis. How he thought this was the correct thing to say boggles my mind, his brain must still be in the 1970s mode. Novak Djokovic hasn't really poured himself in glory for coming out with what he's said either.

"Nesting"

I heard from my wife about 'Nesting' early on in her pregnancy and thought this was a myth but....oh no guys...... as the weeks have quickly past-by I have seen that this is very much true. Trying to get the house ready from top to bottom hasn't been easy and especially when I had to go into hospital for a minor operation which has stopped me from being able to push on with getting the home ready.

We got the baby's furniture from IKEA and have to say they look really good all built. If you search around you can really make great savings from places like this. This is where my wife comes into a league of her own here, she is great at knowing when a price has dropped on items which we will need for the baby. Any time this happens in the future I'll get it blogged on here.

As we don't know the sex of our baby, we have gone for neutral colours of "Matt Chocolate" and a feature wall "Muddy Puddle" from the Dulux matt colour range.

We were going to get a stencil for over the crib with sheep jumping over fences but as I'm a Freelance animator/Illustrator I'm going to give this a go myself. In the coming days I'll put up pictures of how this all turns out.

We've been lucky to have family in the decorating trade and my brother-in-law got a lot of painting completed around the house. Which was a great wait of my mind. The house is now really taking shape and while I am getting stronger, I'll be able to get some of the other "nesting" projects 'ticked' of the list.

Now that the baby's room is coming along Zoe has been able to get all the baby clothes washed and put away in the wardrobe and drawers, which also helps with her "nesting".

A welcome note from Becoming Dad.....

I've came to this blogging quite late into the pregnancy of our first child.
We have just hit the 32 weeks marks and this  coming Friday it will be seven weeks till we find out if it's a little girl or boy who will be making an entrance into our life.
We had our final antenatal class tonight. We learned all about bringing home baby and how to cope in the first weeks of coming home.
On this blog I'm hoping to learn from other parents, first-timers like me and also seasoned pros and to give anything I learn to anyone daft enough to listen.
I'm sure there will be many changes to the blog in the coming weeks, hopefully better spelling, layouts and more exciting blogs in the run up to B-day! So please if you do happen upon this blog, that you do stay with us on the journey.
There will be photos, stories, cartoons and anything else that pops into my mind in the coming days, weeks, months and years to come in the newest and most exciting adventure called Becoming Dad!
