When I was last at my mum & dad's I saw that their rhubarb was ready to cut. So I said we would be round on Friday to get some. So this Rhubarb went from the garden to the tart within 5hrs from growing in my mum & dad's garden to in the oven.
So I got one of my recipe books out, to see about making my first ever Rhubarb tart. Zoe loves Rhubarb, so I know at least one person would eat it.
I used Darina Allen's book Irish Traditional Cookking to get the recipe.
Unfortunately, by the time I got home, made dinner and got the wee man bathed and ready for bed, I ended up rushing it quite a bit so it wasn't as well made as I would have hoped but I was still hopeful it would taste good.
I had forgot, from when my mum made Rhubarb tarts, how much juice came out of them. So, there was a bit of a clean up needed afterwards. I didn't have a pyrex plate, which threw me off a bit as well. (I'll be needing one of them for my next one.)
As you can see, it isn't a pretty tart but we had some last night with custard and it tasted pretty good. The crust was a tad thick, which I'll sort out next time.
Keep a watch out for the next 'Bake Off' that I make! 😊 I have said I'll make Zoe a Birthday cake next month and once The Great British Bake Off is back on screen, I'll bake something each week! *gulp
